Difference Between Link Hijacking And Link Bypassing

Affiliate cloaking software is ideally created to protect your affiliate commisions. Some affiliate marketer’s may not be aware but it is possible to hijack or bypass an affiliate link.

To demonstrate the difference between Link Hijacking and Link Bypassing I will explain in the context of ClickBank.

Link Hijacking: The visitor clicks your ClickBank affiliate link and they are directed to the merchant’s sale’s page. The visitor realises they are at an affiliate page, and they replace the hoplink with that of their own in the adress bar- ensuring the commision is paid to them instead of yourself. This obviously only occurs when the visitor is a member of the affiliate program.

Link Bypassing: The visitor clicks your ClickBank affiliate link and they are directed to the merchant’s sale’s page. The visitor realises the address looks funny- your affiliate hoplink is at the end of the adress. They chop off your hoplink and press enter- redirecting them to the original merchant’s sales page.
